Bayern Munich crushed Besiktas in the first leg of their Champions League draw, winning 5-0 in Germany. On Wednesday, Besiktas host the Bundesliga leaders in Istanbul, needing a miracle to advance to the quarterfinals.
Domestically, Besiktas have gone unbeaten over their last eight games, picking up 20 points to move to second place. The Istanbul club recorded clean sheets in their last two games and will need to play well defensively if they have any hopes of advancing. However, Besiktas will be without center-backs Pepe, who suffered a broken toe and Domagoj Vida, who will serve his red card suspension. Offensively, the Turkish club will lean on Ryan Babel and Talisca, who have combined to score 27 goals in all competitions this season.
Bayern Munich crushed Hamburg on Saturday 6-0, maintaining their 20 point lead in the Bundesliga. Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick giving the Polish striker has scored 32 times in all competitions. With Bayern already up five goals on Besiktas, manager Jupp Heynckes will likely play more conservatively than normal and give more players a chance to start. Niklas Süle, Juan Bernat, Rafinha, and Sebastian Rudy could all be given a chance to start and give Heynckes and opportunity to rest a few starters.
