The Denver Broncos will be keeping one of the key pieces of their defense in place by re-signing linebacker Todd Davis.

All eyes were focused on the quarterback situation in Denver when the offseason kicked off. After bringing in Case Keenum to secure the position, the Broncos brass were able to focus elsewhere. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network the team will be holding onto linebacker Todd Davis.

Davis started for the Broncos over the past two seasons. The former undrafted free agent out of Sacramento State will get his first multi-year deal. His career started out rough, getting signed and waived by the Saints a whopping six times. Denver acquired him prior to the 2015 season off waiver from New Orleans.

Denver will keep one of their own from a talented defense. This contract will also give Davis security he has not seen since entering the league.

Contract Details

Davis’ deal will allow the Broncos to focus on other pressing needs across their defense. The team lost corner Aqib Talib to the Rams in a trade which opened up a need for a corner. Offensively the team desperately needs to address their offensive line as a unit.

The Broncos have a stud in linebacker Brandon Marshall up the middle. Denver secured his partner with this deal. Fellow linebacker Demario Davis received a $24 million deal over three years from the Saints. Getting Davis at $9 million cheaper is a solid deal. Davis is a solid run defender, he is a two down player who struggles in coverage. The limited guaranteed money makes this signing acceptable. The Broncos keep him in house and are able to build around a strong linebacker corps going forward.
