5 worst signings of NFL free agency so far
NFL free agency hasn’t officially begun yet, but the contracts are all but signed and sealed. Which teams made the worst moves so far?
Free agency is always a circus, with millions being spent at a moment’s notice. In some cases, teams are getting better. In many cases, a player is being set up for life, while the team is facing the prospect of buyer’s remorse only a few years later.
This spring, the contracts have been flying around during the legal tampering period, and the market has spoken. Wide receivers are getting a paid a ton, with Sammy Watkins leading the way at $16 million per year. The offensive linemen also have to be happy about their value, with Andrew Norwell and Nate Solder cashing in.
So which are the worst deals thus far? Let’s take a look.
5. Albert Wilson to the Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins didn’t wait to dip their toes into the free agency pool, agreeing to terms with former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Albert Wilson on a three-year, $24 million deal. Wilson, who played his first four seasons with the Chiefs, had a career year in 2017, catching 42 passes for 543 yards and three touchdowns, all career bests.
Wilson, 25, is a solid player, but the money suggests he will be more than a role player. That’s tough to see because the Dolphins already have Davante Parker and Kenny Stills. Additionally, Wilson is a smaller target at 5-foot-9, and the former Georgia State star has never been a deep threat.
