3. Sam Bradford to the Cardinals

Does Sam Bradford collect his paychecks with a ski mask on? How do teams continue to pay a quarterback who can’t stay healthy for a month, let alone an entire season? Apparently, the Arizona Cardinals aren’t worried about that type of minor hurdle, signing the former No. 1 overall pick to a one-year deal worth $20 million, with $15 million guaranteed.

Bradford is talented, but he has been nothing but hurt throughout the entirety of his NFL career. The former Oklahoma star has played in a grand total of 38 games since the 2013 season. Last year, Bradford played all of two games with the Minnesota Vikings before hitting the shelf with a knee injury.

Arizona is also up against the cap, making this even more perplexing. The Cardinals entered free agency with $22 million, and while cutting safety Tyrann Mathieu makes the cap hit a bit of a lesser problem, it’s still a huge chunk for a mediocre player.

Quarterbacks are always going to get overpaid in free agency, but there was no reason to spend that kind of money on Bradford when other, younger, healthier options were available.
