UNC-Greensboro takes on Gonzaga in the First Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game on TV and online.
No. 4 Gonzaga looks to return to the national championship game after coming up short in 2017. Earning a 4 seed might be the key to Gonzaga’s success this season; without the pressure of being a top-seed off, they can focus on working their way to the top. Gonzaga starts the 2018 NCAA Tournament with a game against the No. 13 UNC-Greensboro Spartans.
Gonzaga (30-4, RPI 21) has only faced two teams in the top 32 this season and came away 1-1 in the effort. Gonzaga won the West Coast Conference title outright this year, but not without pressure from BYU and even San Francisco and LMU earlier in the tournament. They’re not coming out of the regular season as prepared as they were last season, but they’ve gotten hot down the stretch. The Zags lead the Spartans in every category except for defensive efficiency, in which UNC-Greensboro leads with 0.914 over Gonzaga’s 0.937.
The Spartans may face an uphill battle, but don’t count them out of the fight. For a mid-major team they have a solid defense and good height inside. But if they’re going to have a shot against Gonzaga they need to stay consistent with their field goals and free throws. TO that end, the Spartans average 44.70% in field goals (Gonzaga averages 50.40%) and 70.20% in free throws, compared to the Bulldogs’ 72.30%.
