Chalmette High School. Mitchell Robinson. 14. player. 66. . C

I’ve decided to stop getting over-excited by anything Daniel Gafford or Robert Williams does and demanding more for them to legitimately vault over Robinson in my mind.

It’s hard to peg Robinson because we have not seen him this year, and we will not have the benefit of seeing him against top competition in the NCAA tournament this year. However, he demonstrates more consistent impact on the game in all the film I watch of him than either of the other second-tier bigs in this first round.

Especially if the Suns don’t take a big at the top of the draft (someone like Luka Doncic or Michael Porter Jr.), they should be able to land one of these three with on of their other two firsts. Robinson would open up space on the outside, giving Phoenix a dimension to their offense they have not had since Miles Plumlee’s first half of the 2014-15 season.

Robinson would also do a lot for their defense, which has struggled mightily with the aging Tyson Chandler and the inconsistent Alex Len in the middle. No one on this team can consistently block shots, and though Dragan Bender may be this team’s long-term center, it’s still a position the Suns can afford to address in the draft, with their future still uncertain from a personnel standpoint.
