2018 NBA Mock Draft: Enter the madness
Walker missed a key throw late in Miami’s loss to Loyola-Chicago that effectively sold the game away for the Hurricanes. They still maintained a 1-point lead at that point, but the freshman nailing both of the one-and-one free-throws would have put Miami up three with little time left.
Instead, Loyola did in fact shoot a 3-pointer, as Donte Ingram pulled up from the high point in the arc and nailed a game-winning 28-footer. Walker’s missed free-throw will be forgotten in time, but it was disappointing to miss the chance to see Walker later on in the tournament. He had real 2011 Kemba Walker potential if Miami’s defense could step up and his teammates hit shots.
Miami shot just nine 3s in the game, and six of them came from Walker. More than a knock on Walker’s ability to be superhero, the performance made evident the fact that the Hurricanes were more disjoined than we gave them credit for.
I expected more from Miami than I got, but I don’t think the same is true of Walker. The Sixers would be taking him as a complementary piece, and that’s where he’s seemingly best at this point in his career.
