UMBC takes on top seed Virginia in the First Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game on TV and online.
Top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers have the best RPI in the nation this year and they’re the top seed in the South Region at the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Like many top seeds they’re projected to go deep in the tournament but they’ll have to make it past No. 2 seed Cincinnati to get to the Final Four, and that’s a match up that’s up in the air.
There are two key stats where the No. 16 University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers (24-10) lead the 31-2 Cavaliers, and that’s in average points per game (74 compared to Virginia’s 67.6) and rebounds per game. Other than that, the UMBC Retrievers are facing an uphill battle against top seeded Virginia.
The Cavaliers have had their own fair share of adversity, though, after learning that the Atlantic Coast Conference’s sixth man of the year will miss the entire tournament. Forward De’Andre Hunter broke his left wrist during the conference tournament, requiring surgery. The team hasn’t been without Hunter, who played in all 33 games this season, and while that might not have implications in this First Round game, it will most certainly present challenges in future games as the Cavaliers fight to make it to the Final Four.
