NFL free agency update: Ed Dickson signs with Seahawks

Seattle has found a replacement for the tight end position. At 6-foot-4, the 30-year-old veteran will be looked upon to add a security blanket for Russell Wilson.

Known to be one of the NFL’s best blocking tight ends, this will be a much-needed boost for the Seahawks. Dickson, although known mostly for his blocking, could also be used as a pass catching threat. Wilson loves to spread the ball around.

They are also getting a very reliable player. Over his full eight-year career, Dickson has only missed four games. He has amassed seasons of 16 games played in six of those campaigns.

While nobody could imagine Dickson as a suitable replacement for jimmy Graham — who signed a three-year deal with the Green Bay Packers — he could fill in for Luke Willson, who is more of a comparable player.

Contract Details

Dickson isn’t going to get much, helping the cash-strapped Seahawks stay financially flexible. Signing Dickson give the Seahawks a viable target, but also someone who isn’t a long-term fix.

National Reaction

For the most part people are still wondering what type of team the Seahawks are envisioning themselves to be. Their will be new faces on both offense and defense. It may take time for players to establish a winning attitude in Seattle but it appears they may be trying to adapt to a more win by committee mindset.

Grade

This is by no means an earth-shattering move, it does appear that management is trying to figure out how this team can still be successful. The Seahawks have what so many other teams covet, an outstanding quarterback still in his prime years. Dickson will give them stability as a great blocker, and will be a great source of reliability as well.
