What in the world did we just witness? Twitter revels in the ultimate Cinderella, the first 16 seed to ever win a March Madness game.

UMBC made history tonight. The Retrievers became the first 16 seed ever to beat a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament, taking down Virginia in shocking fashion.

The Retrievers didn’t just beat top-seeded Cavaliers, they manhandled them. In fact, I think “manhandled” is too kind of a word for this historic beatdown. “Slaughtered” is more like it, and you have to feel like the Cavaliers will be walking back to campus with paper bags over their heads after making the wrong kind of history.

As what is always the case when an underdog slays the dragon, Twitter erupted into shock and awe over Virginia’s epic breakdown in the biggest upset in modern sports history. Here is a snapshot of that reaction to sports history.

It sure does feel like it.
