Milan are currently sixth in Serie A. They’re nine points off the Champions League spots and six points off fourth-place Lazio but they do have a game in hand.
They are currently coming off of elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Arsenal, but that hasn’t affected their Serie A form under Gennaro Gattuso.
Gattuso has mainly improved Milan’s back four, they’ve kept a clean sheet in four straight Serie A games and also held Lazio scoreless across both legs of the Coppa Italia semifinal which they would go on to win on penalties.
Even their 2-0 home loss to Arsenal in the Europa League was considered lucky by some as they performed better in expected goals.
Milan have to be looking at this match as a must win considering they play Juventus two-weeks later for their next Serie A match.
After that they are at home against Sassuolo, another must win due to a home match against Napoli coming up next.
Chievo are currently 15th in Serie A and they are only one point clear of relegation. However, they do have a game in hand on 18th place SPAL.
They have lost their last two matches, to Fiorentina and then to Hellas Verona in the Verona derby. If they can pick up anything against AC Milan it will be considered a plus and hopefully lift their spirits and lead them to a run to escape relegation.
