The Loyola men’s basketball team is coming off back-to-back upsets in the NCAA Tournament but nobody is having more fun than Sister Jean.

If you haven’t been paying attention to this year’s version of the NCAA Tournament, you’ve missed out on some of the best sporting moments of the last calendar year. Not only has a 16 seed upset a number one see for the first time ever, there have been a ton of back and forth games. A few have ended in buzzer-beater fashion and the Loyola Ramblers of Chicago have authored two of those finishes.

In the opening round, Loyola beat Miami with a late three-pointer. They followed that win with another improbable victory against Tennessee but the players have arguably not been the biggest stars of the team. That would be a lovely 98-year team chaplain, Sister Jean. She’s been the darling of the tournament so far and also gives the team well-wishes and advice. Sister Jean also appears to be having the time of her life as she corrected some of the media leading into the Sweet 16 this upcoming week.

It’s almost impossible to dislike this kind of story. Not only does everyone love an underdog come March but when there’s a wonderful person like Sister Jean as the “face” of the miracle run, it gets that much better. The players and staff obviously love having her be a part of the team and the media can’t get enough of the lovely woman. It takes a special person to claim she’s an international star without rubbing people the wrong way. Sister Jean definitely fits the bill on this occasion.

Loyola will face either Nevada or Cincinnati in the Sweet 16. Whichever team they play will not only have to beat the team on the court but also have to play against the power of an international star, Sister Jean.
