UMBC takes on Kansas State in the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game on TV and online.
After stunning No. 1 Virginia and making history as the only No. 16-seed to ever upset a No. 1 seed in the First Round, the No. 16 UMBC Retrievers look to continue their Cinderella story at the Big Dance as they take on No. 9 Kansas State.
UMBC took down top-seeded Virginia with a decisive 74-54 victory in the First Round. The game was tied at the half, but it was all UMBC in the second half as the Retrievers scored 53 points over Virginia’s 33 to give them a 20-point margin of victory. UMBC was 50 percent from beyond the arc to Virginia’s 18.20 percent, and they dominated with 71.4 percent from the charity stripe, too. Guard Jairus Lyles had an impressive 28 points in the game. UMBC’s red-hot shooting was too much for Virginia and they won handily over the team many had picked to win the entire tournament.
No. 9 Kansas State won by 10 over No. 8 Creighton. They led by 6 at the half and kept shooting in the second half of the game, never giving up the lead. Guard Barry Brown had 18 points and Mike McGuirl had 17 points, helping propel the team to victory. Kansas State was 9-for-19 from beyond the arc and 56 percent from the charity stripe, which is something that will help the team when they face UMBC in the Second Round.
