Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead introduced a new character named Georgie who appears helpful, but what’s her deal and can we really trust her?

The Walking Dead has introduced plenty of characters who have proven to be adversaries but at the same time, there have been just as many characters who have proven they are only enemies. There was a mystery person we met on “The Key” after Maggie, Michonne, Rosita and Enid made the trek out to meet them to see what they were all about.

Veteran actress from 24 and House of Cards, among many others, Jayne Atkinson, appeared in the middle of the road and identified herself as Georgie. She came with Hilda and Midge flanking her. Enid and Rosita patted them down and they were unarmed and non-threatening.

Georgie came with an offer. She wanted to offer Maggie knowledge in exchange for four crates. Knowledge isn’t much of a tangible thing, especially when her people are nearly starving. However, we can trust Georgia and what she says, and it sounds like she could be a real ally, just like Deanna was at Alexandria before her death.

Like Deanna, Georgia has a clear vision for the future and even gives Maggie “The Key to the Future” which was a handbook full of ideas and directions how to make windmills, watermills, refine grain, build aqueducts and build a real society that can sustain life for several years.

Georgie doesn’t appear to be anyone from the comic books so she’s a character created solely for the TV series. As a result, we don’t have the source material to predict future storylines for her character. After Georgie left Maggie and agreed to leave her with food, since they need it more than they do, it definitely looks like she will be an ally we can trust. But I’m not so sure we’ll see her again soon. I think, however, her character will be very important in season 9 and beyond.

When the war between Rick and Negan is settled, which it could be during next week’s two-hour episode, living for the future will be the next major storyline for this series. It has to move forward and with so much focused on the death of Carl this season and how he was supposed to be the future, it looks like the future will be made in his honor.

MIchonne reminded Enid and Maggie that Carl brought Siddiq to Hilltop and now they have a doctor. You can trust people and you have to believe in something after. And with Maggie literally holding the key to the future in her hands, there is some real optimism for the Survivors, provided they can survive the war with Negan and the Saviors first.
