Fantasy NHL: Under-owned waiver wire players for week of March 19

Goalies
Curtis McElhinney (Toronto Maple Leafs – 17.7% owned)
It was inevitable that Frederick Andersen would go down at some point this season. The Leafs place a heavy workload on their starter and that always carries with it the risk of injury. The big Dane went down last week, but the Leafs caught a break in the form of Curtis McElhinney who stpped into the cage for the Buds and was fantastic over his last three games, giving up only four goals in three straight wins and scoring a shutout against the hated Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Andersen is still the undisputed starter though, and with report surfacing that he may be ready to go by later this week, McElhinney is a spot starter at best. Ride him while he is hot, but watch the line to see who is starting in Toronto’s Tuesday night tilt with Tampa, and if it’s Andersen, drop him just as quick.
Keith Kinkaid (New Jersey Devils – 16.8% owned)
Kinkaid was great in relief of an injured Cory Schneider earlier in the month, and the momentum he built up over those starts seems to be continuing into March, where he is 4-1 in his last five starts. With a 19-9-2 record on the year Kinkaid has been good consistently, and the winner of his last four straight, he’s been good lately. He shut out the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night for his first goose egg of the season, and with an impressive 8-2-0 mark with a 2.36 goals against and a .928 save percentage in his last 10 starts it should be noted that Devils coach John Hynes has never been scared to go with the hot hand in goal. As long as he keeps up his recent run of form, expect Kinkaid to get more than his fair share of starts the rest of the way, a situation that could prove fortuitous to anyone lucky enough to own him in their fantasy playoffs.
