NHL Power Rankings: Bruins climb as the Golden Knights fall
25. Vancouver Canucks (+4)
The Vancouver Canucks finally scored some goals on Saturday. Before that, they were shut out three straight games. That highlights their biggest issue on the season. Outside of Brock Boeser, there has not been any consistent offensive threat. The Sedin twins are well past their prime and cannot be relied on to carry an offense anymore. Both Daniel and Henrik are set to become free agents at the end of the season. Vancouver will not be able to resign them if they want to keep making $7 million dollars a year. If the twins will agree to take a pay cut, they likely will stay, and it won’t as painful to bump them down the lineup.
That three-game shutout streak included losses to the Arizona Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks. Halfway through the first period against San Jose, Nikolay Goldobin was able to break the drought and get a goal. The Canucks were able to score two more times but ultimately lost to the San Jose Sharks. For a team struggling to score goals, it doesn’t get much harder for the Canucks. They start a four-game road trip against the Vegas Golden Knights, then head through the Central Division to play the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars.
