Martellus Bennett pondering football future

After an injury plagued season, Martellus Bennett doesn’t know what the future holds for him.

Free-agent tight end Martellus Bennett is unsure if he is going to play football in 2018.

After 11 seasons in the NFL, Bennett might decide to hang up the cleats. In 2017, Bennett was released by the Green Bay Packers and was placed on IR after he signed with the New England Patriots, appearing in nine total games.

Through the years, playing football has certainly taken a toll on Bennett’s body. On his future, Bennett stated, “I don’t have to play. I play football because it’s fun.” After playing for three different teams in a three-year span, Bennett may be tired of becoming a journeyman.

Only time will tell if Bennett will play for an NFL team in 2018. His talent is definitely not the issue going forward, but more so his desire to play.  When asked about offseason training, Bennett added “I’ve been working out, preparing to play.”

It seems Bennett may return for a 12th season in the league, though he is weighing his options. There are a handful of teams that could absolutely use a veteran tight end of Bennett’s caliber. For the time being, it seems Bennett still has the desire to play. Finding the right fit may be the No. 1 priority for Bennett entering his final years in the league.

Should Bennett decide to play, there are some intriguing options. The Philadelphia Eagles need a veteran tight end after releasing Brent Celek, while the Baltimore Ravens may be trying to replace Ben Watson as well.
