The NCAA Tournament is finally upon us and Thursday’s Michigan vs Texas A&M game could be one of the more intriguing matchups of the Sweet 16.
Houston was just a couple of free throws away from making the Sweet 16 in a surprising upset over Michigan, but the Wolverines never quit. The Cougars missed three key free throws at the end of the game to give Michigan life while up two. The Wolverines, trailing by two, went down the court in 3.6 seconds and hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
Jordan Poole is the hero right now, but the Wolverines are going to need plenty more in the Sweet 16 if they’re going to beat a red-hot Texas A&M squad. The Aggies are coming off a huge victory over defending national champion, and No. 2 seed, North Carolina.
Michigan’s defense could be the difference in this one as the Wolverines have been surprisingly effective on that side of the ball this season. John Beilein’s teams are usually known for offense and spreading guys around the perimeter and jacking up threes, but defense has been point of pride.
Texas A&M, on the other hand, is an elite rebounding and shot-blocking team, but no one expected the Aggies to be here. North Carolina was the favorite to win the region, along with Xavier, but the Aggies pulled off the shocking upset and right now they’re playing with nothing to lose — that should be a scary thought for Michigan.
