2018 NBA Mock Draft: Where did the prospects go?
Poor Kevin Knox has been plagued all year by commentary about what he cannot do rather than people appreciating what he does night to night for Kentucky. The Bulls need a consistent, athletic shooter like Knox to come in and play with their young guys right away.
Knox is an undeveloped player, just like all freshmen. Yet he has scored in double digits in all but six games this season, shot 34 percent from 3, and most notably survived the complete reformation of this Kentucky team mid-season. Knox and Hamidou Diallo had the reigns to the offense early on, but Knox has managed to stay effective with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander running the show over the last month. What this says to me is that he is a malleable player, and that his skill set is transferrable.
Knox does not dominate the ball, meaning that someone like Kris Dunn, who needs control to be effective, would not hurt Knox in Chicago. But really, this pick is about what Chicago does not have rather than what it already does.
The Bulls badly need athletic wings, as they have used David Nwaba, Justin Holiday and Denzel Valentine throughout the season, three less-than-stellar athletes who could move on from the team soon. With Lauri Markkanen in place at the four, Chicago needs a player who can slot in next to him and provide the defense with a different kind of challenge.
Knox will attack in transition, make open shots and play defense. Every night.
