Are the Golden State Warriors in real trouble now with the latest Stephen Curry injury?

This isn’t Stephen Curry’s month. Right when he returned from a right ankle injury on Friday night, he proceeded to sprain his left knee late in the game after JaVale McGee fell awkwardly onto him during the 106-94 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Curry will have an MRI Saturday to determine the severity of the injury, but the body language from the team during the game wasn’t inspiring.

Steve Kerr called the atmosphere in the locker room “somber” after the game, and the NBA can only watch and see how the Warriors react to this new obstacle in the path of their title defense.

“We’ll see what the MRI says tomorrow,” Kerr said to NBA.com. “There’s not a lot we can do or predict. Kind of a strange, cruel twist of fate, you know. He rehabs his ankle for the last couple of weeks, gets that strong, and then the knee goes. So we’ll see what happens. Keep our fingers crossed.”

Curry scored 29 points in only 25 minutes of action, and his absence will most likely keep the Warriors from catching the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference standings.

Golden State is dealing with considerable injury troubles this season, but some would say they are overdue. Klay Thompson has a hand fracture. Draymond Green has a pelvic contusion, and Kevin Durant’s rib contusion is keeping him out.

Next: Curry out 3-6 weeks with Grade 2 MCL strain

Most of the Warriors will be back before the playoffs begin, but we’ll have to see how they respond to this adversity in the meantime.

A grade 1 tear of the MCL would keep Curry out for up to three weeks, and a grade 2 tear could keep him out six weeks. If it is a grade 3 tear, then we won’t see him on the court again this season. If the Warriors are somber now, then they might be downright morose after hearing the results of Curry’s MRI. Stay tuned.
