Miami Dolphins: Tight end
The Julius Thomas trade was a dud for the Dolphins but the 2018 NFL Draft could offer several solutions at the position moving forward.
Miami has already made it clear that shedding salary is a top priority this offseason, and proved as much by letting go of defensive tackle Ndomakung Suh and trading wide receiver Jarvis Landry to the Browns. The team is set for now at quarterback with the return of Ryan Tannehill, but head coach Adam Gase will need to surround him with more weapons in order for the Dolphins to succeed next season.
Gase didnāt mince words last season when he called the teamās offense āthe worst offense in footballā and after trading both Jay Ajayi and Jarvis Landry in the last six months, itās clear that the team is due for a new infusion of talent. With Anthony Fasano undecided on his return, that leaves the Dolphins with a hodge podge of depth tight ends left on the roster following the release of the aforementioned Thomas, which saved the team $6.6 million in cap space.
For the Dolphins, Penn Stateās Mike Gesicki and South Dakota Stateās Dallas Goedert are both viable options, though it would likely involve a trade down from their current spot at eleven. On the off chance that the team wants a successor to Ryan Tannehill, they could choose to trade up and take a quarterback inside the top ten that could feature as many as four being selected.
In addition to tight end, keep an eye on the interior of the defensive line as the team looks to fill the massive void left by Suh.
