Chicago Bears: Guard

The Chicago Bears enter the 2018 season with a new head coach and a lot of work to do if they want to post their first winning season since 2012. Former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy takes the reins from John Fox and will look to work his magic with second-year quarterback and former second-overall pick, Mitchell Trubisky.

The Bears find themselves in a good position heading into the 2018 draft for being one of only a few teams inside the top ten not in need of a quarterback. Chicago’s pick at number eight could wind up being an appealing spot for teams like Buffalo and Arizona, both of whom are likely to take a quarterback early. If Chicago isn’t in love with any of the players left on the board at number eight, expect to see them trade down with a quarterback-hungry team.

One area that the Bears need to address most of all is adding talent on the offensive line, particularly at guard. Josh Sitton is on his way to Miami via free agency, meaning that Chicago will be in need of some fortifications up front to protect Mitchell Trubisky. Notre Dame’s Quenton Nelson would be a great fit, but it’s unclear whether he would make it to the eighth pick. If Nelson is off the board, general manager Ryan Pace could decide to trade down and pounce on a player like UTEP’s Will Hernandez or Georgia’s Isaiah Wynn.

Matt Nagy knows that the play of Mitchell Trubisky will be the key to his success in Chicago, thus the reason why protecting him and strengthening the offensive line figures to be priority number one come draft day.
