There’s still going to be a NASCAR doubleheader at Martinsville Speedway, only now it’s going to be on Monday, not Sunday.

Turns out the rain that fell on Saturday that postponed the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway and washed out qualifying for the STP 500 was only a sneak preview of what the weather held in store for the weekend.

Snow that fell Saturday night has effectively made racing impossible today, and NASCAR has postponed both the Cup Series and Truck Series races until Monday, March 26. Both races will air on FS1, which was the plan for today after a mix of snow and rain halted the Alpha Energy Solutions 250 after less than 25 laps on Saturday.

The precipitation got worse overnight and turned to legitimate snow, which caused NASCAR to push both races into next week.

The difference is now the order in which they will be run. The continuation of the Truck Series race was going to be run under the lights, at approximately 7:00 p.m. Saturday night. It will now go on first, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The STP 500 will follow at the time it was originally scheduled for today.

New NASCAR at Martinsville TV schedule

  • NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Alpha Energy Solutions 250 (postponed from March 24), 11:00 a.m., FS1
  • Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series STP 500 (postponed from March 25), 2:00 p.m., FS1

It’s not often that snow interferes with NASCAR race weekends, but it does happen on occasion. USA Today has a great look at a memorable snowfall that took place at Atlanta back in 1993, a huge blizzard that dropped more than three feet of snow and led to the race being postponed for an entire week.

This storm, fortunately, isn’t nearly on that scale. There shouldn’t be an issue with getting both races in on Monday, so we’ll see you then for some weekday NASCAR racing.
