Maggie has a lot on her plate as the leader of Hilltop and carrying Glenn’s baby while an all-out war with the Saviors takes place, but is there time for a new love connection?

Maggie has been a new person since the moment Negan murdered Glenn in front of her in a moment that signaled a shift in tone for The Walking Dead. For many, that was a moment that saw them check out of the show while others saw it as a complete change of tone and narrative.

Since that moment, Maggie has been motivated by revenge and honoring her late husband’s name. She was quick to introduce herself as Maggie Rhee, the widow, to Simon when he and the Saviors ambushed the Hilltop. This is who she is now. She’s a new person and this isn’t the life she wanted, but it’s the life she’s living, and she really has no other choice.

Maggie is a revenge-seeking widow who wants nothing more than to kill Negan for what he did to Glenn and to countless others. For a moment she wonders if she’s being selfish and more like Gregory, the ousted leader of Hilltop, but I don’t think she’s being selfish for any of the wrong reasons.

But when Alden, one of the prisoners she was keeping relatively good care of in the makeshift prison, he tells her that she’s selfless and a great leader who saved more lives than she took. He was seemingly speaking from the heart and was totally genuine. We saw him speak to young Henry to try to talk him down when he wanted to kill the person who killed his brother, Benjamin. Somehow Jared, the guy who did it, is still alive, but probably not for long. But Alden seems like a nice guy who is caught up in a bad situation.

After Henry gets overwhelmed when the walkers attack and the prisoners escape, Alden had a chance to flee with them, but he chose to stay and help and fight with them. We are led to think he’s a good guy. He could be another Tara, who was with the Governor to survive but wasn’t really with him.

This leads me to wonder if Alden has a bit of a crush on Maggie. I don’t think Maggie is much in the mood for a love connection, especially when she’s in a fight for survival with the man who killed her husband. Oh, and she’s carrying his baby. She’s still pregnant, right?! No one has talked about it at all in a long time, but as far as I know, she’s still expecting, right?!

But, after this season, when the series takes a two-year time leap that the comics did, I wonder if Alden and Maggie could have a love connection. It’s a tough world out there and it’ll be a bit easier to navigate with someone on your side.

At the same time, we all love Glenn and will never forget him, so if this does happen, it’s going to be so polarizing. But hey, that just makes for good TV.
