Top 10 shots in the history of The Masters
By Luke Norris
Prepare for the 2018 Masters with a look back at the 10 best shots in tournament history.
It’s that familiar theme that lets you know spring is near. It’s the azaleas blooming. It’s Magnolia Lane. It’s Augusta National. It’s the green jacket. As Jim Nantz would tell you, it’s a tradition unlike any other. It’s The Masters. And it’s that time of year again.
Since 1934, The Masters has played host to some of the greatest moments in golf history and the many of the game’s greatest players have been awarded the green jacket. Just look at the names of some of the past winners. Sarazen. Nelson. Snead. Hogan. Palmer. Player. Nicklaus. Seve. Watson. Crenshaw. Langer. Faldo. Tiger. Mickelson. Just these names alone have provided golf fans with some of the most entertaining performances in Masters history. But, of course, more historic than the names of the golfers are the shots they took.
For the purposes of this list, greatest “shots” literally means shots. Not putts. The technical police may say that a putt is still a shot but seeing as dramatic and/or tournament-winning putts would skew the list, it’s best to save those for their own list sometime in the future.
All of these shots took place in the final round or a playoff. It’s not that there haven’t been great shots in other rounds but the focus is on drama here. Big shots on a big day on a big stage. In fact, there’s only one shot on this list that didn’t come from the eventual champion and that’s on here because it was amazing…as all of these were.
So let’s go ahead and get into it. The top 10 shots in Masters history.
