The Houston Astros start the 2018 season against the Texas Rangers. Here’s what you need to know to watch the game on TV and online.

It’s MLB Opening Day and it’s time to kick off the 2018 season with the World Series Champion Houston Astros visiting the Texas Rangers.

The Houston Astros finished the 2017 season with a 101-61 record and a World Series title to their name. They look solid in 2018 after posting a 21-9 record in spring training. RHP Justin Verlander will have his first Opening Day start for the Houston Astros and his 10th career Opening Day start. The 35-year-old Verlander (2017 Astros: 5 – 0, 1.06 ERA, 34 IP, 43 strikeouts) was traded to the Astros late in the 2017 season and ended up being a huge component of their World Series victory. Verlander saw five games in the 2018 spring training camp, going 1 – 1 for a 1.64 ERA and an impressive 24 strikeouts in 22 innings of work.

Texas finished their 2017 season in the middle of the American League West with a 78-84 record. The Rangers struggled to find their groove during spring training, posting an 8-22 record for a .267. Lefty Cole Hamels has his second Opening Day start for the Texas Rangers and his 4th career Opening Day start. Hamels was 7 – 2 (4.35 ERA) in 2017 and had two starts against the Astros last season with a 5.40 ERA in those two games. The Rangers are still working to determine their closer, with Alex Claudio, Keone Kela and Jake Diekman in consideration. Manager Jeff Banister expects to see a closer emerge over the course of the season.
