This Cubs fan jumped in Lake Michigan after Ian Happ’s Opening Day homer
Cubs utility man Ian Happ launched the very first pitch of the MLB season into the seats. In the process, he made a Chicago sports writer regret tweeting.
It didn’t take very long for the MLB season to get rolling on Thursday. Fans got treated to a home run on the very first pitch of the season thanks to Chicago Cubs leadoff man Ian Happ. He crushed a Jose Urena offering into the stands. Just about everyone in Chicago had to be pumped at the start to the season. Bleacher Nation writer Michael Cerami likely stared at the home run ball with a growing horror due to a tweet he sent shortly before the home run happened.
We all know that tweets like this don’t always age well. Some times a tweet ends up on an account like Old takes Exposed and if you write about any subject long enough, you’ll see some takes be very, very wrong. This particular tweet took all of six minutes to completely blow up in Michael’s face.
Needless to say, things didn’t work out so well for Michael. The current temperature in Chicago is just 45 degrees and it feels like 36 with the wind. That’s a little less than ideal to be jumping into a lake. Michael is saying that he will hold to his word and it should appear on Twitter later today.
To his credit, this fan made good on his bet:
In all honesty, this is what makes sports so fun. Each year we honor the best fans in the world with the Fandom 250, and this guy just earned Cubs fans a ton of points.
People will always have opinions and make stands on particular things. It’s even better when there’s some actual stakes involved. Now, Michael will probably wish he hadn’t tweeted that when he’s actually in the lake. He still can’t be too upset that the Cubs have looked good during the first game of the season.

It took mere moments for the baseball season to have its very first memorable moment. For one writer in Chicago, that moment is going to be etched in his memory for a very different reason.
