The Chicago Bears enter the NFL draft with optimism after a strong free agency period.

The 2017 season was a year of transition for the Chicago Bears. They made a move in the draft to get their franchise quarterback, Mitchell Trubisky. As the second overall pick, he showed promise in the action he saw. After the year Chicago shed some veterans, and hired a new coach Matt Nagy. His new offense will be in place to help Trubisky. The weapons they signed should also help in Allen Robinson, and Trey Burton. Now the team will turn their attention to the draft and gear up for a run at the NFC North.

Round 1 – Pick 8

Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Teach

Chicago addressed their biggest offensive hole this offseason with the acquisition of Allen Robinson. Defensively, the cap casualties of Jerrell Freeman and Willie Young opened up a hole at linebacker. The team still has Danny Trevethan but could use some athleticism on the second level. Enter Tremaine Edmunds of Virginia Tech.

Edmunds is a special, yet raw, player. At only 19 years old, his physical stature is something rarely seen from NFL linebackers. His arms look like an octopus is trying to wrap up ball carriers. He offers special ability with his first step quickness, sideline to sideline speed and overall athleticism. His athletic profile and physical stature makes him a utility knife as a linebacker. Edmunds could see time playing in the middle while also getting snaps off the edge as a pass rusher.

The Bears could bring Edmunds up to speed slowly while utilizing his traits in sub packages. He is a bit of a project but brings starter capabilities and star potential. Chicago could address corner here but Edmunds is a blue chip talent at the linebacker position and fits the versatile defense the Bears will run.
