Drake is on the Loyola bandwagon. RIP Ramblers.

According to ESPN, Drake slid into Donte Ingram’s DMs to express his support for his latest favorite basketball team. He told Ingram, who hit the game-winning buzzer-beater against Miami and is a consistent high-scorer for Loyola, that he wanted to attend the Final Four, but couldn’t fit the trip into his schedule. He also congratulated Ingram on Loyola’s accomplishments.

This may actually be the best news for the Ramblers, given as it is that Drake’s allegiance has a history of not working out so well for the team in question. Previously in college basketball, Drake was all-in on Kentucky, partying with the team after a Final Four victory in 2014. Kentucky would lose the championship game to UConn that year.  (To his credit, he first expressed allegiance in 2012, and they did win, but they have not won an NCAA Tournament since.)

In the less godly field of the NBA, Drake has even more wide-ranging and even more damning loyalties.

He’s a Toronto Raptors fan “to the death” and while he’s not exactly loyal — he steps out on the Raptors all the time — he’s never gonna leave ‘er.

He cheered for and celebrated with the Miami Heat in 2013.

In 2014, he became a Steph Curry fan, rapping about him on “0 to 100.”

Later in 2014, he said that he’ll be attending games in Cleveland on account of LeBron’s return. The Cavaliers would lose the championship that season to the ascendant Golden State Warriors.

During the 2015-16 season, Drake when full Warriors fan: attending home games, making In-N-Out runs with the Currys, name-dropping the team on “Summer Sixteen.” In the summer of 2016, the Warriors would blow a 3-1 lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Additionally:

"Drake bets French Montana $60,000 that the Golden State Warriors will win the NBA playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers, in what might be the most bandwagon move of his career."

In April 2016, Drake name-checked KD in conjunction with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Three months later, KD left the Thunder.

As for the Raptors? Well, any time Drake comes home circa the playoffs, they mysteriously forget how to play elite basketball.

But let’s not judge Drake too hard. In the immortal words of Justin Bieber, “I also don’t know enough about sports to Really have valid opinion but I do enjoy sports!! And enjoy any high-level sports game. Any team.”

Still, what does this mean for Loyola? Well, it’s unclear. On one hand, Drake has taken a very soft stance of support — as of press time, his DM to Donte is the only record of his fandom. Whether that’s enough to jinx the team, we’ll have to see.

The Loyola Ramblers will play Michigan in the first game of the Final Four, at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 31.
