Brazil: Because they’re Brazil
It hardly needs explaining why Brazil can win the World Cup. Brazil are always expecting to win whatever major tournament they play in. Of course, that doesn’t play out as often as Brazilians would like. Sometimes the weight of the entire country can cripple the team and have them fall apart in devastating fashion. One doesn’t need to look further than the 2014 World Cup semifinals against Germany to see an example.
But Brazil have already put that massive breakdown behind them. They played a friendly against the Germans in late March and won 1-0, with Gabriel Jesus scoring the winner. Of course, that won’t erase the memory completely, but it’s a start.
The Selecao boast an absurd collection of talent. Dani Alves, Marcelo, Marquinhos, Casemiro, Coutinho, Paulinho, Willian, Douglas Costa, Gabriel Jesus and Neymar are just a few of the wildly talented players on their squad.
Brazil absolutely dominated their qualifying group as well. They ended up with 41 points from 18 matches, losing only once. They scored 41 goals and gave up just 11, both the best in the group by far. They’re an outstanding side, fun to watch and have the ability to beat any team, anywhere at any time.
You don’t need to be told why Brazil have a chance of winning the World Cup. The only reason why they don’t have that kind of success every four years is because other countries have similar talent everywhere in their own squads. It takes skill, dedication and a bit of luck to end the tournament as champions. Brazil have the first two in spades. They just need that good fortune.
