In their first game back from the international break, Everton host Manchester City at Goodison Park. The Toffees are middle of the table with 40 points, eight points outside of a potential Europa League spot and 12 points above the relegation zone. The Citizens have been first all season long, winning 26 of their first 30 games. City are three wins away from clinch the Premier League championship.
Everton have won their last two games, defeating Stoke 2-1 in their last game. Cenk Tosun scored both goals against Stoke, giving him four goals in his first seven games since joining the club from Besiktas. The addition of Tosun has allowed manager Sam Allardyce to play Wayne Rooney further back in the formation. Allardyce will have to make changes to his usual starting XI, as Gylfi Sigurdsson is expected to be out until mid-April with a knee injury. Theo Walcott will likely be the first choice to start but Allardyce could opt for a more defensive formation against City’s high-powered offense and try to steal a point.
Manchester City have been the best offensive and defensive team in the Premier League this season. City’s 85 goals are 12 more than Liverpool, with Sergio Aguero leading the club with 21 goals. However, Aguero is questionable for Saturday’s game with a knee injury. Defensively, the Citizens have allowed only 20 goals, three fewer than city rivals Manchester United. Pep Guardiola’s possession dominant style has prevented other teams from getting the ball, let alone generate scoring chances with David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne controlling the midfield.
