Jordan Poole sought out Sister Jean to congratulate her on her team’s unexpected run to the Final Four.
Sister Jean has become a cultural icon at a time when America desperately needed one.
She’s the superfan of the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers (hopefully, you knew that by now), and you can make a great case that she was the lucky charm to the Ramblers remarkable run to the Final Four.
Alas, however, midnight has to come sometime to take Cinderella’s glass slippers back to Macy’s, and it was a good run for the Ramblers while it lasted. What makes this run special, though, is how much America has fallen in love with Sister Jean. She has touched everybody and has even had a profound effect on the Michigan Wolverines.
In fact, she was so admired by Michigan, that Jordan Poole actively sought out Sister Jean to congratulate her on her team’s miraculous run to San Antonio:
Now, that is the definition of being a class act.
Nobody forced Poole to do that. He did it of his own free will, and it was a gesture that was much-needed. No one (including yours truly) gave the Ramblers a chance to get to the Final Four, but they proved us all wrong, and whether you think so or not, Sister Jean was a big part of this run.
She is the older version of all of us; the fan that will never give up on their team no matter what. Sister Jean has been through it all with the Ramblers, and it would no surprise that the kids on the court went on this run for her.
We hope that this isn’t the case, but this may be the last time she sees her Ramblers make this type of run, and we all need to embrace and celebrate her before she goes to that arena stand in the sky.
