Minnesota Vikings ā Whataburger
The goal of Whataburger was to make people say āwhat a burgerā when eaters bit into their burger. When I bit into a Whataburger, I didnāt say anything. Itās rude to talk with your mouth full.
After I swallowed my first bite, I said, āOk.ā It was a good burger (but not Good Burger) and not so good that it gave me a foodgasm. Sorry, itās just tough for a burger to impress me.
The Minnesota Vikings are good, but are they really impressive? They just do everything well, but they donāt jump out at you like you want when youāre trying to decide on whether or not they are a contender. Their defense is great. Itās been great for a few years now. But nobody is impressed with stout defenses. Theyāre usually just bored by it. People want to see highlight reel plays from gun-slinging quarterbacks and athletic wide receivers.
The Vikings have Case Keenum and Adam Thielen. Keenum won more games this season than he had won in his previous five seasons. Thereās nothing special about Keenum. Heās a good quarterback, but no one is getting excited about having him on their team. If you did a Madden fantasy draft and ended up with Keenum, youād probably restart the fantasy draft and try and figure out where you went wrong. Then youād draft Teddy Bridgewater a round or two too early just to ensure you have a quarterback who excites you.
Thielen has been good for a couple of seasons, but only the Patriots get excited by white wide receivers. Every Vikings fan wanted Stefon Diggs to be the breakout receiver on the team, but he hasnāt been as healthy as Thielen and has now been surpassed by him. There is still hope for Diggs, but heās second on the depth chart.
Keenum and Thielen donāt make you say, āWhat a duo.ā You just watch them, enjoy them for who they are, and move on to your next meal.
