New York Giants – Arby’s
“We have the meats.”
That is Arby’s slogan and that is what New York Giants fans will hear from now until David Gettleman leaves his position as the general manager.
As a Panthers fan, I know all about Gettleman. I know that it doesn’t matter what position the team needs in the draft or free agency. He’s going to select or sign an offensive or defensive tackle. Need a safety? No, you don’t need a safety. You need a defensive tackle. Have no running game? It’s not because you have no running backs, it’s because you don’t have enough offensive tackles. Nine times out of ten, Gettleman is going to take the biggest, beefiest player available.
In the case of the Giants, maybe that’s not a bad thing. They already had the greatest receiving core in the league. Until they didn’t. Eli Manning is still a good quarterback, he just had no protection for most of the season. They had a good secondary. Until they didn’t. Their defense failed to create any quarterback pressure.
The Giants need the meats. They need the triple roast beef with cheddar cheese. They want the double ham, turkey, and bacon sandwich. A thin precooked hamburger isn’t going to cut it for the Giants.
David Gettleman is a smart guy. He knows that football games are won and lost in the trenches. He’s not concerned with add flash to his menu. He doesn’t care about creating new items or trying to be something he’s not. He’s all about the meats.
Get ready Giants fans. No more apples. You’re about to have the meats.
