Michigan is looking to win its first national championship since 1989 but it will have to get past Villanova first. Here’s why the Wolverines can win it all.

What a postseason it’s been for college basketball. There have been plenty of wild upsets and incredible buzzer-beating shots, including the one made by Michigan’s Jordan Poole to beat Houston and send the Wolverines to the Sweet 16.

Michigan is playing some solid basketball right now and after beating No. 11 seed Loyola (Chicago), the Wolverines are headed to the national title game for the first time since 2013.

John Beilein has done an impressive job with this program, turning the Wolverines into perennial Big Ten contenders after years in the conference’ cellar. The Wolverines were Big Ten punching bags before Beilein took over and he’s been one of the more underrated coaches in the country for the past decade, or so.

The Wolverines’ chances of winning a national title, potentially their first since 1989, have taken a big hit with the emergence of Villanova from the right side of the bracket. The Wildcats have been plowing through every opponent and No. 1 sed Kansas was no exception in the Final Four.

If Villanova keeps playing like it has been to this point in the tourney, the Wolverines could be in some trouble.

However, Michigan has a strong chance of winning, and these are the five reasons that’s true.
