1. John Beilein gets the most out of his players
If there’s one coach in college basketball who gets the most out of his players without the constant attention from the media nor the hype, it’s John Beilein.
The veteran head coach, formerly of West Virginia, has been turning the tides in Ann Arbor over the past decade and he’s headed to his second national title game as the Wolverines’ head coach. Before his arrival, Michigan was a cellar-dweller in the Big Ten and it didn’t look like there was an end in sight.
However, he has recruited the right guys who have been role models both on and off the court and they fit his system whether or not they’re the classic blue-chip recruits who are expected to lead top teams to national titles.
Just look back at that 2013 team that went to the national championship, Trey Burke was the hero and he was a three-star prospect. He was joined by guys like Nik Stauskas and Tim Hardaway Jr. who nearly defied the odds and won it all.
This year’s team might be the most Beilein-esque in his tenure. They play his style of basketball to perfection and it’s evidenced by this run. He gets the most out of these guys and he will continue to do so.
