After a bit of a delay, FX’s Legion returns for its second season this week. Here’s a look at what to expect in the premiere.
When we last saw anyone on Legion, David Haller (a.k.a. Legion) had been zapped up into a floating orb and taken away. We don’t know who stole him away or where the orb was going. We also learned that the Shadow King had taken the body of Melanie’s recently revived husband, Oliver Bird, as a host after being essentially kicked out of David’s.
The first season definitely left several ideas unresolved. The Shadow King had left David but wasn’t really defeated at all. Melanie got her wish when her husband woke up, but then he was taken away. Syd had to watch “her man” get kidnapped. There was nothing she could do, and as far as I know no clues as to who took him. David’s return should provide plenty of intrigue for the second season, and that’s before getting into figuring out who he is separate from the Shadow King.
The season 2 premiere should serve as a reminder of who these people are, and they need to move against the Shadow King quickly. If they wait he’s only going to get stronger. The synopsis for the premiere READS
"Unlikely alliances are formed and the search for the Shadow King begins in the Season 2 opener."
We already know what some of those alliances are. The trailer for season 2 mentioned Melanie and the others teaming up with Division 3, their adversary form the first season. Also, in the finale last year, Clark and David seemed to agree they had to work together against the Shadow King. Of course, then David was abducted so we didn’t get to see the results, but an alliance was still probable.

The search may also lead them away from Summerland. In the end of season 1, Lenny and Oliver were headed “somewhere warm,” so I expect Melanie and the others to follow them. Part of that depends on how quickly they can find David. Locating and rescuing him has to be the first priority, if only because they stand no chance without him.
The premiere of Legion season 2, “Chapter 9,” airs Tuesday, April 3 at 10:00 p.m.
