NFL Free Agency update: Brice Butler heading to Cardinals
The new-look Arizona Cardinals continue to remake their wide receiving corps thanks to the addition of talented Brice Butler.
It’s been quite the ride for wide receiver Brice Butler, who entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft choice by the Oakland Raiders in 2013. After two seasons with the Silver and Black, he was dealt to the Dallas Cowboys. He spent the last three years with Jason Garrett’s club. This past year, he totaled only 15 catches in 13 contests. But he totaled a career-best 317 yards and scores three touchdowns.
In three seasons in Dallas, the 6’3”, 215-pound wideout hit his stride. In 36 regular-season outings, Butler pulled down a modest 43 passes. But he racked up 794 receiving yards (18.5 average) and reached the end zone six times.
Now the speedy performer is on the move once again, heading west to the desert to join the Arizona Cardinals.
Contract details
The originals news of the signing comes from former NFL receiver James Jones. Butler has agreed to a two-year deal with the Cardinals. No other details were available at press time.

The Arizona Cardinals have a whole new set of quarterbacks and quite the different group of wideouts. Yes, ageless Larry Fitzgerald remains but Jaron Brown (Seattle Seahawks) and John Brown (Baltimore Ravens) left via free agency. Meanwhile, Butler is the second wide receiver to join the club this offseason, along with Cobi Hamilton (Houston Texans). In any case, new head coach Steve Wilks and new offensive coordinator Mike McCoy hope that Butler can be a consistent deep threat for the club. Staying on the field for the entire season would be a big plus, something he’s done just once in five NFL seasons. But the big-play talent is certainly there.
