Who is Donte DiVincenzo?
By Jacob Quirin
Donte DiVincenzo is a Villanova legend, and we watched it happen in real time.
The name that very few fans knew outside of Villanova fanbase knew prior to the National Championship, Donte DiVencenzo is a man on a mission.
DiVencenzo had an interesting start by not playing organized sports until 9th grade. He focused his energy on basketball and soon evolved into a star in Delaware.
Donte DiVencenzo is a 21-year-old Redshirt Sophmore out of Salesianum High School in Deleware. DeVencenzo was a 4-star recruit, and the top player in the state according to the ESPN recruiting profiles. He chose to commit to Villanova after getting offers from Notre Dame, Syracuse and Virginia Tech among others.
He had a slow start at Villanova and redshirted his first season. In his redshirt freshman season, he averaged 8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds. He was a quieter player who was a role player in the team coming off a national championship.
This season he has averaged 13 points coming off the bench for the majority of the season. When he has come in he has worked well with the likes of Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson. DiVincenzo had a few solid games this season, most notably dropping his career high of 30 points against Butler in January. He was considered by many as the best 6 man in college basketball this season but his season was overlooked by many because of the other stars on Villanova.
He has fit in well with the team and has been a great player when he has been on to take the pressure off his team’s stars.
The world has taken notice as DiVincenzo has taken over.

DiVincenzo took over the National Championship game and secured the Villanova Wildcats their second championship in three years. This is just the start for a player who has a lot of upside potential. This may be the first time that many basketball fans have heard the name Donte DiVincenzo but if he keeps having games like this it will very likely not be the last.
