Shortstop, High End Spend

All Day

Xander Bogaerts, $3,500

0 at-bats vs. Jose Urena

Bogaerts continues to be smoking hot to start the season, hitting .455 with a 1.273 OPS to go along with a .339 wOBA. I’m more interested in the early only than the main, because there is a standout player in the evening that could be an option.

Main Slate

Trea Turner, $4,600

.556/.556/.667 with 0 HR in 9 at-bats

Turner has been a terror on the base paths against his divisional for, swiping 12 bags in his last 25 games. He also has a career mark of a .476 wOBA and has owned starter Julio Teheran in their matchups so far. It will be interesting to see where he bats in the order tonight. He’s hit in the 5, 6 and leadoff hole so far. Hopefully he’s near the top or at least in the fifth slot tonight.

Mid-Range

All Day

Jean Segura, $3,000

0 at-bats vs. Ty Blach

Other than Ty Blach is a “Bla(c)h” pitcher, Segura saw lefties better in 2017 and had a little bigger power potential. He always carries stolen base upside and he has better RBI chances with Dee Gordon’s speed in front of him. Especially on the early only slate, Segura profiles as a really solid play.

Main Slate

Elvis Andrus, $3,500

.350/.350/.450 with 0 HR in 20 at-bats

The speedster for the Rangers likely doesn’t have a ton of power upside that he can tap into but he can steal bases. He’s got a good average against Graveman and could easily hit double digit points with a hit, steal, and a run. He’s got a good price point as a leadoff man and against a pitcher who has a very low strikeout rate.

Value

All Day

Alcides Escobar, $2,200

.375/.412/.563 with 0 HR in 16 at-bats

This is a punt in the truest sense of the word but Escobar is at least sort of viable. He’s significantly better against lefties but that’s about all he’s got going for him. That and the fact he’s got a good history against Boyd.

Main Slate

Dansby Swanson, $2,600

1.000/1.000/2.000 with 0 HR in 1 at-bat

Fitting Verlander in the lineup demands some value somewhere and it’s possible that Swanson provides it. He’s been pretty good to start the season and gets to face a pitcher who doesn’t strike many batters out. Don’t expect a ton but the trade-off is one of the best pitchers in the game.
