This is why you shouldnāt go too crazy during the Par-3 Contest before The Masters. Just look at what Tony Finau did to his ankle celebrating a hole in one.
Itās a rule, and it is also a curse. Everybody knows that winning the Par-3 Contest on Wednesday afternoon before The Masters doesnāt matter. It in absolutely no way translates to you rocking a sweet green jacket on Sunday afternoon. But donāt try to tell that to Tony Finau, or his ankle for that matter.
Finau did a pretty cool thing during the Par-3 Contest. The guy hit a hole in one and it was most glorious. He wasnāt expecting his tee shot to go in the pin and he did exactly what your dad tried to tell you when he meant āact like youāve been in the end zone before.ā
Well, this is golf and therefore, it is not football. Finau celebrated like he hit a game-winning bomb in Game 7 of the World Series. Then he busted his ankle oh so grossly. Use your best judgement if you think you can stomach the following video. Disclaimer: itās not as bad as Gordon Haywardās season opener injury for the Boston Celtics, but no, ankles should not be able to do that.
Since Finau is in fact an athlete, he certainly had the running around part with his hands up in the air like he just donāt care down pat. The problem is when he started to run backwards. You just kind of knew that it was going to end horribly in that slick lavender shirt of his.
It looks like he rolled both ankles, and definitely one. All the sinew in his foot had to have snapped on this semi-excessive celebration. Like Jeff Teague, he was able to pop his botched foot back into place like it was no big deal. We wish we could have said the same thing for former Arizona Cardinals celebrated placekicker Bill Gramatica back in the day.
Finau is scheduled to tee off on Thursday for round one at 12:43 p.m. ET. His grouping includes Berhand Langer and Yuta Ikeda. Hopefully Finau has plenty of ice to save his ankle in time for The Masters tomorrow. He might have hit a hole in one on Wednesday, but it only matters if you do that sort of thing at August on say Thursday through Sunday. Not Wednesday, definitely Wednesday.
