Who has won the most Masters?
By Jake Ellis
Who has put that Masters memorable green jacket on the most? Read on to find out the answer.
The Masters is one of the most cherished tournaments, and winning this tournament is considered the highest honor in the sport. If you are able to win the Masters, and take home one of those historic green jackets, you will be remembered for years and decades to come. There are no-names who have put on the jacket, such as Mike Weir and Trevor Immelman, and there are some household names who have done it multiple times, such as Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. But who is the player who tops them all with the most green jackets? That honor goes to the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus.
Nicklaus won the Masters a record six times throughout his historic career. He has 18 total major victories throughout his career, which means that one third of his total victories have come at Augusta. Nicklaus won his first Masters in 1963 when he was just 23 years old. He went on to add two more back-to-back in 1965 and 1966. He is just one of three players to have won this tournament back-to-back. Nicklaus won again in 1972 and 1975. Everyone thought that he was done after that, but the Golden Bear was not dead yet. Jack saved his best performance for last in the 1986 Masters. Nicklaus, as a 46-year-old, came back from four shots down after 54 holes to win his sixth green jacket, causing Greg Norman another Masters heartbreak. Nicklaus is two clear of the field as far as total green jackets won, as both Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer are in second with four green jackets each.
