The first leg of the Europa League begins on Thursday with CSKA Moscow hosting Arsenal. CSKA are third in the Russian Premier League, five points behind Lokomotiv Moscow with five games remaining. Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League, 13 points behind Tottenham for the final Champions League spot. If Arsene Wenger’s side want to play in Champions League next season, they will have to win the Europa League.

CSKA finished third in their Champions League group and were relegated to Europa League. In their first four Europa League games, the Moscow side have kept four clean sheets eliminating AEK Athens and BSC Young Boys. Domestically, Viktor Goncharenko’s side have won three straight and six of their last seven games. While the Russian side can sometimes struggle to score, they have a stingy defense that has only allowed 18 goals domestically. Offensively, the club leans on Vitinho, who leads the club with 10 goals and eight assists this season.

Arsenal advanced to the quarterfinals after beating AC Milan in both legs of their round of 16 clash. While the Gunners have won two straight games, they have lost five of their last nine games. Offensively, Arsenal need Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to have strong games and create chances for Danny Welbeck or Alexandre Lacazette to finish. The French striker scored last weekend against Stoke, giving him 10 goals this season. However, Wenger has not played Lacazette in any Europa League games this year. Welbeck is tied with Sead Kolasinac for the team lead in Europa League scoring with two goals.
