DraftKings Main MLB Picks April 6: Is an A’s stack in order?

We have yet another split slate early in the MLB season. The larger slate is seven evening games. There are some strong pitchers out there, but are they worth the huge cost? Let’s get through some stats!

More from DraftKings

There were no rainouts yesterday for the first time in a week. Only San Francisco has a chance of rain tonight, so we should be pretty safe.

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

HOUSTON, TX – OCTOBER 27: Lance McCullers Jr. #43 of the Houston Astros walks to the dugout as he exits the game during the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers in game three of the 2017 World Series at Minute Maid Park on October 27, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Top Tier:

Lance McCullers Jr. ($12,300): Only three current Padres have faced McCullers in his career. They are a combined 2-19 off of him with one run and eight strikeouts. There is big strikeout potential here against San Diego, and I don’t imagine the rest of the lineup being any more successful against McCullers than Headley, Hosmer, and Ellis are.

Kyle Hendricks ($9,400): The Brewers are only hitting .206 in 136 at bats against Hendricks with four homers, 11 runs, and 35 strikeouts. Hendricks isn’t a big strikeout guy, but there is decent potential here. No one has elite numbers against tonight’s opponent with the possible exception of Castillo. Hendricks could be as good as it gets.

Middle Tier:

Luis Castillo ($8,700): It’s a small sample size, but Luis Castillo has dominated the Pirates so far. The current roster is hitting just .115 off of Castillo in 26 at bats with one run and ten strikeouts. PNC Park is almost as good of a pitcher’s park as Castillo’s home park. There is a ton of potential here, especially since the Marlins are hitting .359 against Trevor Williams.

Marco Estrada ($7,500): The Rangers are hitting a solid .257 against Estrada, but he has only allowed eight runs in 74 at bats. The 17 strikeouts that Estrada racked up against the Rangers are what make him a solid play. He’s going to give up some runs, but he should get a lot of that back.

Bargain Pitchers:

Brandon Woodruff ($6,900): Woodruff may not go deep into the game since he has appeared twice in relief already this year, but there is decent potential here. Woodruff has quite the potential here, even against the Cubs. The problem here is that Woodruff has a 6.21 career ERA at Miller Park compared with 1.38 everywhere else.

Derek Holland ($6,100): Holland only has a brief history against the Dodgers, but it’s a really good one. The Dodgers are hitting just .158 off of Holland in 19 at bats, but they do have three runs and only four strikeouts. There is good potential here at AT&T Park, and the fact that his teammates have hit Kenta Maeda pretty well doesn’t hurt.

MILWAUKEE, WI – SEPTEMBER 28: Jesse Winker #33 of the Cincinnati Reds hits a RBI single scoring Joey Votto during the sixth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on September 28, 2017 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Mike McGinnis/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Joey Votto is 5-11 with a walk, three doubles, and a run scored against Trevor Williams. If Devin Mesoraco, gets the start, his only at bat against Williams resulted in a solo homer. Even if Tucker Barnhart makes the start, he is 2-3 with a walk, a double, and two RBI off of Williams.

Surprise, surprise, Gary Sanchez has a homer and three RBI against Kevin Gausman. Gausman was a disaster in his first start, so Sanchez looks like a nice play here if you can afford to pay up at catcher.

Josh Donaldson is 3-8 with a walk, a double, a homer, two runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Matt Moore. Russell Martin is a solid catcher option. He is 3-9 with a walk, a double, two homers, and six RBI against Moore. Kendrys Morales is 3-5 with a walk, a homer, and three RBI off of Moore.

I don’t trust Brandon Woodruff starting after two relief appearances so far this year. That means Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are worth a look here today.

Middle Tier:

Manny Machado is 18-51(.353) with three walks, six doubles, three homers, seven runs scored, and 11 RBI in his career against CC Sabathia. The 1.036 OPS against Sabathia says it all.

Travis Shaw is 4-12 with two walks, a double, two homers, and five RBI in his career against Kyle Hendricks. Jett Bandy is only 1-4, but the hit is a solo homer.

The A’s have blasted Parker Bridwell. The team is hitting .423 against him in 26 at bats. Matt Olson is 2-4 against Bridwell. Both of those hits are home runs and he drove in four. Bruce Maxwell is 3-4 with a homer and three RBI so far against Bridwell.

Bargain Shoppers:

If you need to save some cash, Martin Maldonado is 3-4 with a walk and two runs scored off of Daniel Gossett. Both of Jefry Marte‘s at bats against Daniel Gossett resulted in doubles, and he is only $2,800.

Brandon Belt is 3-11 with two walks, two doubles, a steal, a run scored, and a RBI against Kenta Maeda. Buster Posey is 4-14 with four RBI in his career against Maeda.

Once again, Ryan Rua looks like a strong play if he makes the starting lineup. Rua is 2-4 with a walk, a double, a triple, and two runs scored in his career against Marco Estrada.

MLB DFS
LOS ANGELES, CA – NOVEMBER 01: Carlos Correa #1 and Jose Altuve #27 of the Houston Astros celebrate defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in game seven to win the 2017 World Series at Dodger Stadium on November 1, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Tim Bradbury/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

The worst current average for a Yankee against Kevin Gausman is Didi Gregorius‘ .267. That bodes well for all Yankee bats. Gregorius is off to a hot start and he has a double and two RBI against Gausman.

Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa look like strong bets against Luis Perdomo. Perdomo has shown some flashes of being a good pitcher, but he isn’t there yet. The Astros could beat him to a pulp.

Middle Tier:

Scooter Gennett is 3-8 with a homer and three RBI in his career against Trevor Williams. It could be a good day for Reds bats.

Zack Cozart is on a tear right now, and is a perfect 2-2, both singles, against Gossett. Andrelton Simmons is 2-5 with a run scored against Gossett. Both are solid options if you are looking for something cheap in the middle infield.

Jonathan Schoop is 6-27(.222) with two walks, two doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI in his career against CC Sabathia. Tim Beckham is only 4-16 with a walk, a double, a run scored, and a RBI against CC.

Joe Panik is 5-12 with two walks, a homer, three runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Kenta Maeda.

Bargain Shoppers:

Marcus Semien is 2-4 with a run scored against Parker Bridwell. Jed Lowrie is only 1-3 with a walk, but he has scored twice. Considering what the A’s have done to Bridwell, I’m all for this cheap stack.

TORONTO, ON – MARCH 29: Aaron Judge #99 of the New York Yankees is congratulated by teammates in the dugout after scoring a run in the fifth inning on Opening Day during MLB game action against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on March 29, 2018 in Toronto, Canada. (Photo by Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Aaron Judge is 6-12 with four walks, a double, three homers, seven runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Kevin Gasuman. Brett Gardner is 13-40(.325) with four walks, two doubles, a homer, two steals, seven runs scored, and two RBI off of Gausman.

Khris Davis is 1-2 with a walk, a double, two runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Parker Bridwell. He is a great spearhead for an A’s stack.

Middle Tier:

Sometimes you get a BvP line that makes you subscribe to it whole heartedly. Adam Jones against CC Sabathia is one of those. Jones is 24-79(.304) with five walks, four doubles, a triple, five homers, two steals, 14 runs scored, and 15 RBI off of Sabathia.

Ryan Braun is 6-23(.261) with a double, a steal, three runs scored, and two RBI off of Kyle Hendricks.

Josh Reddick is the only current Astro to face Luis Perdomo. He is 4-5 with a solo homer against Perdomo. If the Astros start him, I’m interested.

Andrew McCutchen is only 2-10 in his career against Kenta Maeda, but both hits are homers and he has driven in four. If you need to go really cheap, Gregor Blanco is 2-4 with two doubles, a steal, two runs scored, and a RBI off of Maeda.

Bargain Shoppers:

The Reds outfield comes cheap, and Scott Schebler is 2-7 with a walk, a double, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI against Trevor Williams. Adam Duvall is 3-8 with a run scored and a RBI off of Williams.

Ah, Kike Hernandez, the lefty whisperer. Yep, he’s got to Holland too. Hernandez is 1-2 with a double, a run scored, and a RBI off of Holland.

Shin-Soo Choo is 4-11 with a walk, a solo homer, two steals, and two runs scored against Marco Estrada. Nomar Mazara is the same price, and he is 3-10 with two walks, a solo homer, and two runs scored against Estrada.

Steve Pearce is very cheap and hits lefties hard. He is 5-16(.312) off of Matt Moore, but he does only have two runs scored to his credit.
