Third Base, High End Spend

Josh Donaldson, $4,600

.375/.444/.875 with 1 HR in 8 at-bats

All Josh Donaldson has done his entire career is smash left handed pitching to the tune of a .974 OPS and a .412 wOBA. Now he gets to travel to one of the best hitter parks in MLB and on top of that, gets a pitcher who gives up a ton of fly balls and hard contact. That makes for a very intriguing spot for Donaldson today. He should be able to take advantage in a big way. If you’re playing the All Day, he’s a good pivot off of Nolan Arenado.

In Consideration – Nolan Arenado, $5,200

He’s a massive investment and doesn’t have the best track record against Brandon McCarthy but it just doesn’t matter at Coors. I truthfully don’t know if I’d pay for Arenado when I think Donaldson has just as much chance to put up a massive game. You just can’t leave him off any analysis with his career numbers at home vs. righties – .299 average, .897 OPS, and a .376 wOBA.

Mid-Range

Jose Ramirez, $3,300

.154/.214/.154 with 0 HR in 13 at-bats

Much like the last couple days, Ramirez just can’t continue to hit this poorly. He’s too good of a player and has good career numbers against lefties. Danny Duffy was so bad last time out that I can’t help but think about trying to attack him this time out. This is a case of hoping the batter vs. pitcher data doesn’t play out the way it has in the past.

In Consideration – Eugenio Saurez, $3,100

The Reds offense is due for a breakout game sooner than later. Even though Trevor Williams pitched well in his first start and has some talent, he has struggled with the Cincinnati offense in his career. With all the big name bats at this spot, Saurez should be low-owned.

Value

Adrian Beltre, $2,600

.182/.357/.273 with 0 HR in 11 at-bats

This might be one of the cheapest prices we’ll see all season long as Beltre gets to face off with a fly ball pitcher in his home park. Beltre is a future Hall of Famer and is in a great spot and isn’t close to $3,000 dollars. Ignore the batter vs. pitcher sample here and play Beltre.
