FanDuel picks and lineup for Saturday, April 7
Shortstop, High End Spend
Early
Didi Gregorius, $4,400
.550/.591/1.050 with 1 HR in 20 at-bats
Can you say batter vs. pitcher jackpot? Admittedly, the price tag for the Yankee shortstop is really high today but he’s still a major priority for me. We always try to balance all the data and not weigh one particular thing too heavily but Sir Didi has owned Tillman. Considering the Orioles pitcher now is seeing his skills continue to decline, this is just too good to pass up.
Main
Trevor Story, $3,500
0 at-bats vs. Anibal Sanchez
This is a departure from when I normally look at Story for a couple reasons. I’ll normally be interested against lefties but at Coors that changes. His OPS and wOBA at home against righties is over .850 and .350, respectively. Anibal Sanchez certainly isn’t scaring anyone at this point in his career. Frankly, even though he homered yesterday, $3,500 seems like a reasonable tag for a player with the upside Story has.
Mid-Range
Early
Eduardo Escobar, $3,300
1.000/1.000/2.000 with 0 HR in 1 at-bat
Nothing in his profile really says he’s a great play today. This is more of just realizing that Escobar has taken the opening left by Jorge Polanco getting popped for PED’s and running with it. The career backup is hitting over .400 to start off the season. While that is obviously going to stop at some point, Escobar does get to face a mediocre pitcher. Perhaps he can keep it going one more day.
Main
Dansby Swanson, $3,000
.250/.400/.500 with 0 HR in 4 at-bats
The young shortstop is just destroying baseballs right now as he’s hitting .370 on the season. He may not have a home run yet but they’ll come at a reasonable pace. He went bonkers yesterday with over 30 FanDuel points and his price only jumped $300. He’s likely going to be popular because of his performance and his price tag but this is awfully tempting to pass on.
Value
Early
Amed Rosario, $2,700
.000/.000/.000 with 0 HR in 3 at-bats
I’m not suggesting a full on Mets stack against Gio Gonzalez. It could always work but wouldn’t something I would actively chase after. If you feel like Cabrera and Flores are going to be chalky and want to head in a different direction, Rosario could be the way to go. He’s hitting .333 early and is up over nine FanDuel points a game. He hasn’t even stolen a base yet, which is his prime attribute. In his young career, he sees lefties well with a .829 OPS and a .349 wOBA.
Main
Given the price tag on both Coors players in this slot, I can’t possibly see myself getting away from one of them. Every single player beneath Swanson in price is a light hitting player with very limited upside. Again, this position will likely be chalky but we’ll just have to eat it and differentiate elsewhere.
