The Masters 2018: Watch Patrick Reed put on green jacket (Video)
By Kyle Walton
For the first time in his career, Patrick Reed is a winner at Augusta National and awaits the fitting for his first green jacket after winning the 2018 Masters.
Following the opening round of The Masters, Patrick Reed found himself tied for fourth. Sitting three shots ahead in first was former Masters Champion Jordan Spieth. Reed posted a 66 Friday and 67 Saturday to take the outright lead at the close of each day.
When Sunday came around golf fans across the world readied for the Hazeltine rematch between Reed and Rory McIlroy. As Reed led the field heading into Sunday at 14-under, McIlroy trailed at 11-under while Spieth was all the way back at 5-under par and barely in the Sunday conversation. Out of the gate, McIlroy missed an attempt for eagle and never seemed to truly gain his footing after that.
Meanwhile four holes ahead of Reed and McIlroy, Spieth was making Masters magic of his own. Spieth made nine birdies and one bogey on the day to put the pressure on at 13-under. Sneaking through the back door Rickie Fowler made a run of his own also pushing the patience of Reed with six birdies over his last 11 holes.
The pressure down the stretch was continually put on Reed as the roars of the crowd just holes ahead of him echoed throughout Augusta. Every time it seemed as if Reed was taking a step back with a bogey he would answer right back with a birdie to match. A birdie on the par-4 14th gave Reed the cushion he needed down the stretch.
As is the tradition at The Masters, last year’s champion Sergio Garcia had the honor of putting the green jacket on this year’s champion.

Patience and persistence paid off for Reed making nerve racking par putts when he needed and saving strokes around the green with his irons. A who’s who of top contenders chased him down Sunday but the Ryder Cup dubbed “Captain America” fended off all challengers at Augusta. A five-time winner on the PGA Tour, the 2018 Masters marks Reed’s first career major and the 82nd recipient of the famous green jacket.
