The Miz, Finn Balor and Seth Rollins went to battle for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 34. Who walked out with the belt?

On Sunday night, WrestleMania 34 opened with a matchup for the WWE Intercontinental Championship between The Miz, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor. It’s a not a first-time-ever match, as it took place during 2017, but on an episode of Raw. This time, however, it happened under the brights lights at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Before the match started, Balor provided what probably will be one of the night’s many highlights. He entered with members of the LBGTQ community, with a call for inclusion. He even wore attire that alluded to this.

As expected in a match with Balor, Miz and Rollins, these three went all-out with their high-flying moves (well, not Miz). Anything like this to get an already hot crowd into the match works, as seen in previous years with the formerly annual WrestleMania ladder matches and AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon in 2017.

This turned into Miz’s match about halfway through. He took control over Balor, who fought back with the crowd on his side proceeded to a head-to-head with Rollins. The A-lister returned, though, and had another near-fall to just miss resecuring his Intercontinental Championship.

The Miz had control of Balor in a Figure Four, but Rollins dove in with a splash and left all three laying in the ring. The former Shield member followed with an attempt to scare WWE fans all around the world, by teasing the same powerbomb into the barrier on Balor, who destroyed his shoulder on this move at SummerSlam 2016. Thankfully, it did not happen this time around.

Things picked up afterward. From a buckle bomb on Miz to an attempted Falcon Arrow on Balor, who countered it with a near fall, and a kicked-out-of Skull-Crushing Finale, it brought the crowd to the edge of their seats.

Through the match, Balor hurt his leg. Whether it was the Figure Four or the Coup de Grace, it became an issue as the final minutes approached. He took too long to capitalize on a pinfall attempt because of the leg, which allowed Rollins to step up, hit a Curb Stomp on Miz and win the championship.
