2. Fate

In the final game of the season, there was a questionable offside call that led to Colorado’s second goal. After a lengthy review, the referees and NHL war room decided that Tyson Barrie kept the puck in and the goal counted. You be the judge:

If you’ll recall, the Avalanche were hosed on an offside call against the St. Louis Blues earlier in the season. They had a goal wiped away after the referees wrongfully awarded Mike Yeo a challenge on a play that was not allowed to be challenged. Following the game, the NHL issued an apology to the Avalanche for taking away their game-tying goal with two minutes remaining.

None of it matters now, but St. Louis captain Alex Pietrangelo made an interesting comment:

Maybe the hockey gods are just rooting for the Avalanche?

After last season, Colorado has certainly built up some good karma. Their coach left them at the alter a month before training camp. Their star player, and a guy who grew up as a fan of the team, pouted and wanted out. They were the worst team in the last decade and still lost the draft lottery, dropping to fourth in the draft.

Maybe Pietrangelo is on to something. Maybe this is fate.

Or maybe Pietrangelo is just salty.
