The Michigan Wolverines will be looking to build on their 8-5 record from last season. It all starts during the 2018 Spring Game April 14th.
To call last season a disappointment for the Michigan Wolverines is an understatement. The season started with a big win against the Florida Gators in Dallas. The Wolverines then cruised through their out of conference schedule entering Big Ten play with three wins and no losses. Then in a game against Purdue Michigan’s season began to unravel.
Starting quarterback Wilton Speight went down with a back injury and the offense became stagnant. Michigan lost the rest of their big games including Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State. Through all of that, the team was invited to the Outback Bowl where they lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks on New Year’s Day.
Jim Harbaugh made some changes to his offensive staff, firing offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Tim Drevno. Michigan’s offense looked flat at many time throughout last season and the offensive line struggled under high-end talent.

Ed Warinner was hired to help with the offensive line. Warinner has spent real time in the Big Ten working with both Ohio State and Minnesota. Warinner will have a blend of veterans and young players to start with this season. Grant Newsome will be looking to return from a serious knee injury and sophomore Cesar Ruiz will look to make a bigger impact.
The defense will once again be the team’s strong point. Don Brown is again at the controls and the Wolverines are returning a lot of talent. Rashan Gary, Chase Winovich, Khaleke Hudson and Devin Bush were all major impact players last season that are coming back to form an elite front seven. They will need to replace the loss of defensive tackle Maurice Hurst and linebacker Mike Mccray. Lavert Hill is returning as a junior and lead the Wolverines defensive backfield and continue is strong play from last season. This year’s spring game will answer a lot of questions for Michigan and their fans.
